" I have never heard of male breast cancer. That's a new one on me. What causes it?"
This is something written yesterday by a well educated. well travelled. late middle aged American man. He is in the maximum danger zone 55-70 for male breast cancer.. That statement comes close to one I read from a lady 4 years ago when I was first diagnosed. "I knew that men could get breast cancer but I never read about one dying from it"
I am not trying to shame these people. I want to shame the cancer organisations and media that promote this deadly ignorance by presenting Breast cancer as a womans disease.!
The man in question is from a military site I am on. At least he now knows to check his pects!
When someone is looking for info on a cancer organisation site then they already have a question. If you dont think you have a question you wont go looking for the answer.

Good morning all, although some of you know I was busy with my book at just after 4 am this morning. I had had to re write the back cover. in a way that would make people pick it up and want to read it.. I think it was successful short but powerful about 5 lines although I could have done without my brain trying to solve the problem at 4 am.. the last two days have been hectic with the publishers. but I think we are there.. The front cover is done. It's fantastic. the contents are done. the back cover is 99% done the photo and about the author are done. A press release has been done which I will translate into English for British and American newspapers that may be interested. and a letter asking permission to turn a statue of a friesian horse in Leeuwarden into a pink Unicorn for a weekend to promote the book is ready to be sent to the Council.

Vertaling in het Nederlands
Goedemorgen allemaal. Vanochtend om 4 uur in de ochtend was ik bezig met mijn boek. Ik moest de tekst voor de achterkant herschrijven. Zo, dat mensen als ze het oppakken en lezen, het boek in getrokken worden. Ik denk dat het in 5 regels gelukt is. Was tevreden, maar had mijn hersenen liever niet om 4 uur ’s nachts het probleem willen laten oplossen. De afgelopen twee dagen zijn hectisch geweest met de uitgever. Maar ik denk dat we er zijn. De voorkant is bijna klaar. Het is fantastisch. De corrector is met de laatste loodjes bezig en de achterkant is ook voor 99% klaar. Foto en tekst over de auteur is klaar. Nederlandse persbericht ligt klaar voor verzending. Ik zal hem gaan vertalen in het Engels voor de Britse en Amerikaanse kranten die misschien geïnteresseerd zijn. En als kers op de taart, ligt er een brief klaar waarin ik toestemming wil vragen aan de burgemeester en wethouders van Leeuwarden om een standbeeld van een Fries paard in Leeuwarden om te zetten in een roze Unicorn voor één weekend. Dit om aandacht te vragen voor borstkanker bij mannen.

Somewhere around February 24th 2012 I was laying half-awake in my bed. My left nipple was itching. Sleepily I gently scratched it and felt a small hard lump just above the nipple. The lump was quite firm but painless. Although very curious I went back to sleep. I didn’t know then that Itching and dry flaky skin around the areola are some of the early signs of breast cancer in men.

Vertaling in het Nederlands
Het was ergens rondom 24 februari 2012. Ik lag half slapend in mijn bed. Mijn linker tepel jeukte. Nog slaperig, wreef ik zachtjes. Ik voelde een kleine harde knobbel die pijnloos was net boven de tepel. Ik was nieuwsgierig maar viel toch weer in slaap. Ik wist nog niet dat jeuk en droge huid vroege symptomen zijn van mannelijke borst kanker.

Hiermee begint het Engelstalige boek Pink Unicorns of male breast cancer dat oktober 2016 zal verschijnen. Volg mijn blog voor meer informatie over de verschijning van mijn boek.
